Gateways are required
to make phone calls over the Internet. They are used to connect
the traditional phone system with the Internet. As shown in the
illustration below, on one side a physical phone line connects a
gateway to the phone system where it can communicate with any
telephone in the world. On the other side, the gateway is
physically connected to the Internet where it communicates with
any computer in the world. For example, if a person wants to
make a phone call using their computer, they dial someone´s
phone number. The gateway picks up that call and sends it over
the Internet. On the other end, another person answers his or
her phone. Both people can talk and would never know the call is
going through the gateway. |
| |
|
| |
The
telephone line is connected to the internet then the Gateway
coverts that connection into regular calls and sends it to a
land or mobile Phone. |

Make a Phone to Phone VoIP Call
Using The CallingPlaces VOIP System.
Any regular analog telephone (even a cordless phone) can be
connected to the CISCO ATA 186. It has two analog telephone
ports for up to two separate phone numbers. It can be shipped
pre-configured by CallingPlaces. |
| |
Connecting the CISCO ATA to your
network is simple. All you need is a high quality broadband
connection and an extra Ethernet port on your hub or switch.
Once the CISCO ATA is connected to the internet it automatically
finds the CallingPlaces servers and registers itself so
that calls can be made and received.
In this scenario, the CISCO ATA 186 is the originating gateway
that converts your voice signals to VoIP packets, which will
travel over the internet.
The terminating gateway converts the VoIP packets back to voice
signals and connects to our Tier One TDMA routes to make the
call to any telephone in the world.
By using the internet as our network and connecting to Tier One
carriers, we are able to operate as a high quality, least cost
provider and compete with the traditional TELCO's and pass on
the savings to you |
